Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Geologist/Environmental Scientist for employment in the Germantown, MD office. This position would support the Environmental business line, primarily working on Federal projects.

Under the supervision of a Project Manager, the successful candidate will:
  • Use scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems within a defined scope.
  • Plan, execute, analyze and report on environmental investigations in natural systems.
  • Apply standard field practices and techniques using basic field equipment to collect samples of soil, soil vapor, groundwater, surface water, and sediment; prepare samples for shipping; maintain daily logs; and complete chain-of-custody or similar paperwork.
  • After training, perform unsupervised field tasks.
  • Direct staff in the execution of tasks.
  • Coordinate with task and project managers, working with on-site subcontractors and field staff, and supporting sampling, data collection, and field documentation.
  • Prepare technical science-based work plans, data summaries, and reports.
  • Interpret and record data, conduct analyses, compare findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Apply knowledge of natural sciences (chemistry, physics, biology, hydrology, and mathematics) to explain observations.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, or related field and 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License
  • Due to the nature of the work, US citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Remedial/Site investigation, remediation planning, or design experience.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills (including polished client presentation skills), organization, time management, and an individual who thrives in a team-oriented environment.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and preparing technical reports.
  • Preparing for professional registration, such as Professional Geologist.
  • Field experience overseeing industry-standard drilling and monitoring well installation methods. Experience logging soils using the USCS and rock logging.
  • Experience with CERCLA RI/FS, RCRA, and RD/RA projects with commercial or DoD clients.
  • Experience with digital tools for field data collection.
  • Experience performing environmental investigations at DoD facilities.
  • Cost estimating and basic fate and transport modeling.
  • Certificates - OSHA 40hr HAZWOPER Training and current refresher; first-aid/CPR.
