We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Insulator to join our team in Norfolk, VA. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of insulation techniques and materials, contributing to the efficiency and safety of various projects.

Role: Insulators/Insulation Mechanic
Pay Rate: Depends on the experience
General Requirements:
- Must understand ship safety practices and proper PPE usage.
- Ability to follow instructions and perform work safely and accurately.
- Must be physically capable of working in confined shipboard environments.
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
- Willingness to learn and follow insulation installation procedures.
Classification-Specific Requirements:
Journeyperson 1 (Insulation Mechanic)
- Understand ship nomenclature and compartment navigation.
- Able to read a tape measure and use basic insulation tools.
- Assist in laying out overhead and bulkhead structures.
- Install fiberglass cloth on piping, ventilation ducts and engine systems.
- Install hull board of various thicknesses on ship structures.
- Tape seams using fiberglass tape.
- Assist with installing rubber and fiberglass pipe coverings on steam/chill water systems.
- Fabricate and install box beams and wraps.
Journeyperson 2 (Insulation Mechanic)
- Layout overhead and bulkhead structures using 1" inch and 2" inch waffle back studs.
- Install sheet rubber, tube rubber and fiber glass coverings on steam/chill water systems.
- Assist J3/J4 in installing calcium silicate systems and applying finishing cement on calcium silicate.
- Reinstall and manage insulation materials correctly.
- Assist with lagging pad installations on various ship system'
Journeyperson 3 (Insulation Mechanic)
- Assist in reading and interpreting insulation drawings.
- Assist J4 in designing and fabricating lagging pads and miters out of calcium silicate.
- Install lagging pads on pipe flanges, valves, vents and exhausts.
- Install calcium silicate on various sized steam systems.
- Apply finishing cement on calcium silicate seams.
- Must know shipyard standard items: 009-11, 009-23,009-10.
Journeyperson 4 (Insulation Mechanic)
- Must be able to read and interpret insulation drawings for layout and installation.
- Design and fabricate lagging pads and miters from calcium silicate.
- Install lagging pads and fabricated miters on all ship systems.
- Lead or train lower-level mechanics as needed.
- Ensure proper techniques and materials are used on installations.
