Location/Onsite: Remote (U.S.- based)

A Day in the Life of the General Counsel

As the first in-house attorney, you’ll shape the legal foundation of a cutting-edge AI company transforming K–12 education. You’ll serve as a trusted advisor to leadership, helping the company move fast, stay compliant, and maintain the trust of educators, students, and families. From data privacy and AI ethics to SaaS contracting and corporate governance, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring responsible innovation at scale.

Responsibilities include:

• Draft, review, and negotiate SaaS agreements with schools, districts, and vendors
• Lead compliance initiatives for FERPA, COPPA, GDPR, and state-specific privacy laws
• Advise on emerging AI regulations and ensure ethical, compliant product innovation
• Manage the company’s intellectual property portfolio (trademarks, copyrights, software IP)
• Partner with Finance and the executive team on board governance, equity, and investor relations
• Provide cross-functional counsel to People, Product, and Engineering teams
• Build scalable legal processes, contract templates, and playbooks to support growth
• Retain and manage outside counsel for complex or specialized legal matters
• Deliver practical, business-minded legal advice that accelerates growth while managing risk

Requirements and Qualifications:

• J.D. and active license to practice law in the United States
• 8+ years of legal experience, including law firm and in-house roles, SaaS or EdTech preferred
• Prior experience working with intellectual property, data privacy, and AI - related regulations
• Strong SaaS contracting and intellectual property management background
• Familiarity with emerging AI laws and ethical standards, both U.S. and international
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across departments
• Passion for improving education and leveraging technology for good
