Hospitalist Medical Director role combining ~60% clinical care and ~40% administrative leadership at a 376-bed hospital, overseeing the hospitalist program, mentoring physicians and APPs, and ensuring quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities include scheduling and coverage coordination, recruitment and retention, serving as liaison with administration and clinical departments, leading meetings, supporting performance metrics and documentation, and participating in strategic planning and committee work. Position is Monday–Friday daytime with access to intensivist support, an internal medicine residency program, and involvement in throughput and patient experience initiatives.
St. Francis-Emory Healthcare, a 376-bed facility located in Columbus, GA is seeking a Hospitalist Medical Director to provide both clinical care and strategic leadership for the hospitalist program, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care while supporting operational excellence. We are seeking an experienced physician who has a passion for leadership and can motivate and mentor.
We are a level 1 emergency cardiac care center with excellent support and 24/7 intensivist coverage with an accredited ACGME three-year internal medicine residency program.
Position Details:
• Monday Friday, 8:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m • Approximately 60% clinical / 40% administrative • Patient volume averages patients per day • Role may evolve based on organizational and system prioritiesKey Responsibilities:
• Provide medical and administrative leadership for the hospitalist service • Deliver direct patient care while maintaining a visible leadership presence • Recruit, onboard, mentor, and retain hospitalist physicians and APPs • Coordinate clinical schedules and ensure adequate coverage Lead hospitalist meetings and serve as the primary liaison with hospital administration, medical staff, and departments • Champion quality, safety, and patient experience initiatives • Monitor and support performance metrics, documentation standards, and regulatory compliance • Collaborate with emergency medicine, nursing, case management, and ancillary teams to improve efficiency and throughput • Participate in strategic planning, program development, and system initiatives • Represent hospitalists on committees and in leadership forumsExperience life just 90 minutes southwest of Atlanta, with Columbus offering a perfect blend of city amenities and Southern charm - plus access to outdoor adventures, a thriving arts scene, and a lower cost of living.
