Job Description

Responsible for the analysis of laboratory specimens and subsequent result reporting according to laboratory protocol and procedures. Performs accurate and appropriate testing of specimens, evaluates specimen acceptability, investigates problems with specimens, organizes workload, verifies accuracy of results, collects data on unacceptable specimens, and notifies supervisors of variances. Reports test results timely and according to protocol, documents notifications for critical values, and follows policies for correcting results. Notifies relevant healthcare providers and authorities regarding microbiology alerts and reportable diseases. Follows laboratory quality control procedures, performs maintenance and calibration on instruments, troubleshoots problems, and adheres to safety and chemical hygiene policies. Communicates with the microbiology team, demonstrates competence in assigned work areas, maintains work area and supplies, participates in orientation and training of new employees, reports to work on schedule, assists in relief duties, participates in technology recommendations, and fosters a culture of safety. Preferred education is a baccalaureate degree in relevant science and one year clinical laboratory internship preferred. Certification or eligibility for Medical Laboratory Scientist or Technologist certifications required. Shifts include one to two weekdays with rotating every other weekend, 3-11:30 in a two week pay period.
