The Blood Bank at the Department of Pathology is currently seeking a part-time Medical Technologist 2 to work in Miami, FL. The Sr. Medical Technologist performs microbiological, molecular biological and immunological tests on body specimens to provide data for use in treatment and diagnosis of disease. Moreover, the incumbent facilitates quality assurance and instrument maintenance. Core job functions include verifying identification of specimen with physicians’ orders, preparing specimens for testing, handling all specimens safely, analyzing and interpreting test results, researching and preparing patient data for pathologists, calibrating equipment, ordering supplies, maintaining inventory, recognizing test inconsistencies and taking corrective action, administering quality-control tests, assuming lead duties and acting as a resource to staff, orienting and training employees, and adhering to University policies. The position requires flexibility to work multiple shifts 3-4 times/week including every other weekend. Additional responsibilities include evaluating quality and appropriateness of patient test results, coordinating and prioritizing tests accurately, maintaining proficiency testing records, performing scheduled maintenance, maintaining inventory levels, assisting in hardware maintenance, contacting Biomedical department for equipment service, working on assigned projects, and adhering to safety and laboratory policies. The role demands skill in completing assignments accurately, ability to analyze and prioritize work under pressure, discretion in handling confidential information, ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends, commitment to University core values, and ability to work independently or collaboratively.
