Job Description

Job Description

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Health Partners is seeking a board certified or board eligible primary care physician to help grow its emerging Ehlers Danlos Syndrome program. This represents a merged clinical and research institute for understanding treatment and science related to Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and related comorbidities. This individual will oversee all primary care clinical responsibilities of the EDS program.

We are seeking candidates with:

  • MD or DO from accredited medical school and completion of approved residency program.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to build consensus and engage physicians and patients.
  • Academic orientation, enthusiasm for teaching, passion for outreach and interest in supporting research.

About the opportunity:

  • Ability to develop a community-based practice serving a unique patient population.
  • Dedicated clinic days and administrative time. Potential for medical directorship if desired.
  • Practice co-located with multiple specialties and strong collaborative support.
  • Dedicated clinical support and a nurse navigator (RN) to help coordinate care.
  • Integrated practice model with a robust internal referral network
  • MUSC is currently receiving significant number of new EDS patient referrals from across the country, largely driven by neurosurgical expertise.
  • MUSC has the largest translational research lab investigating EDS and has identified the first disease gene for EDS. This discovery has led to the generation of an animal model that will be used to understand disease mechanisms and develop new therapies.
  • MUSC has established an EDS genetic registry, which will enable large scale population screens not possible anywhere else. These studies will provide clinical insights and diagnostic marker discoveries while providing the basis for long-term sustainable basic, translational, and clinical research programs.
  • Outreach and advocacy campaigns have resulted in >500,000 people recognizing MUSC as a leader in clinical care and research for EDS, which has led to a groundswell for MUSC to become a destination center.
  • Our newly designated EDS genetics laboratory includes an innovation station that provides a think-tank setting for training future scientific leaders and healthcare professionals.

We will provide:

  • Sign-on bonus
  • Highly competitive compensation and benefits package
  • 401(k) retirement plan with additional employer contribution
  • Occurrence malpractice coverage
  • PTO + Holidays plus CME allowance + time off
  • Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program Qualified Employer
  • MUSC affiliate faculty appointment and privileges
  • Epic medical record platform
