Police Records/Evidence Supervisor The Petaluma Police Department is seeking to fill one (1) Police Records/Evidence Supervisor position. This role is the first supervisory level in the police records and office support series. The supervisor is responsible for planning, organizing, supervising, and reviewing the work of Police Records Technicians and Police Property Technicians, as well as performing complex and specialized police records office support work. Department Overview The Petaluma Police Department is committed to community-oriented policing, serving a population of approximately 59,000 across 13 square miles, located 40 miles north of San Francisco Bay Area. The department employs 84.5 full-time staff, including officers, support personnel, and specialized units such as K-9, SWAT, and Investigations. Position Summary Supervise police records, evidence, and related documents; oversee staff responsible for records, property/evidence, and front counter; perform complex police records support work. Class Characteristics Under general supervision, this supervisory role manages technical and support staff, plans, organizes, reviews, and evaluates work, trains staff, and assists in policy development. Responsibilities include overseeing front counter services, participating in budget processes, analyzing business systems, maintaining records, and ensuring compliance with legal and departmental standards. The role also involves public interaction, court testimony, and representing the department externally. Knowledge and Education Knowledge of supervision principles, law enforcement records management, relevant laws and procedures, police report writing, and office management. Education typically includes high school graduation; an Associate’s degree is preferred. Requires three years of law enforcement office support experience and the ability to obtain a POST Records Supervisor certificate within 30 months.
