Job Description

Principal Product Manager For Search

Mapbox is looking to hire a motivated, curious, and innovative Principal Product Manager for our Search organization. Mapbox Search empowers developers and businesses to explore, access, and use rich location data including addresses, places, and boundaries to build smart, relevant, dynamic, and user-focused geospatial products. Mapbox Search also powers in-vehicle search for automotive partners including Toyota, Porsche, and Zeekr, bringing the best aspects of mobile app development into the car.

As a Principal Product Manager for Search, you will partner with a passionate group of globally distributed engineers, external customers, and internal stakeholders like Sales, Product Marketing, Business Development, Legal, Marketing, and Finance to make customers wildly successful in pursuit of outsized business growth.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Define and execute end-to-end vision and strategy for your product.
  • Conduct analysis to inform your product roadmap and prioritize product backlog.
  • Develop and refine key metrics and mechanisms to build the right product and continuously validate your strategic direction.
  • Explore and implement new use cases for your product that address customer pain points and unlock new revenue opportunities in partnership with your engineering team(s) and the broader organization.
  • Own pricing and packaging of your product as a standalone SKU (including sales enablement, marketing, customer trials, and partnership opportunities).
  • Regularly engage our customers via video conversations, emails, and in-person visits (10% travel) to understand their needs, as well as validate our proposed solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align product goals and delivery phases with overall business objectives.
  • Become the expert and point of contact of your product for internal and external questions, feedback, and requests.

What's important for this role:

  • Over 10 years of product leadership experience guiding API, SDK, and data products through full discovery, development, launch, and adoption in the B2B space.
  • Demonstrated technical depth with the ability to break down complex concepts and communicate them clearly to both technical and nontechnical audiences. Strong customer orientation with a focus on understanding user problems and delivering thoughtful, intuitive product experiences.
  • Data-driven decision maker with advanced analytical skills and a track record of using evidence to evaluate product quality and inform next steps.
  • Skilled at prioritizing tradeoffs and driving teams toward delivering meaningful and immediate value for customers.
  • Strong written and verbal communicator with the ability to convey complex ideas concisely across broad audiences, including FAQs, roadmaps, and business cases.
  • Proven ownership mindset with the ability to independently build, execute, and iterate on product strategies with minimal direction.
  • Ability to simplify complex challenges and identify the most efficient, high-impact solutions for customers.
  • Go-to-market leader with experience owning pricing and packaging and developing strategies that successfully scale product adoption.

Nice to have:

  • Experience working with AI/ML teams and a passion for the navigation and search domain space.

We value high-performing creative individuals who dig into problems and opportunities. We believe in individuals being their whole selves at work. We commit to this through supportive health care, parental leave, flexibility for the things that come up in life, and innovating on how we think about supporting our people. We emphasize an environment of teaching and learning to equip employees with the tools needed to be successful in their function and the company. We strongly believe in the value of growing a diverse team and encourage people of all backgrounds, genders, ethnicities, abilities, and sexual orientations to apply.

Our annual base compensation for this role ranges from $202,300 - $301,700 for most US locations and 5% to 10% higher for US locations with a higher cost of labor. Job level and actual compensation will be decided based on factors including, but not limited to, individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process (including skills and prior relevant experience, potential impact, and scope of role), market demands, and specific work location. Please discuss your specific work location with your recruiter for more information.
