YOUR DAY AS OUR TAX APPRAISER

As an entry-level Tax Appraiser, your day starts out in the field, tablet and tools in hand, as you inspect residential properties, review building permits, and take precise measurements to ensure every detail is accurately recorded. Back at the office, you analyze property characteristics, review blueprints and sales data, and input findings into the CAMA system. You're constantly comparing current assessments and market trends, making educated judgments to ensure fair and equitable valuations across the board. You handle inquiries from the public with professionalism and clarity, helping residents understand the process. Throughout it all, you stay sharp with ongoing training to meet licensing requirements and stay current in a field that's always evolving.

REQUIREMENTS FOR A TAX APPRAISER

  • Bachelor's Degree in business administration, real estate, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and related experience
  • Class 1 Assessor's Certificate issued by the North Dakota State Supervisor of Assessment within 36 months of hiring
  • Valid driver's license
  • Knowledge of real property assessment principles, building construction, and county and state appraisal regulations
  • Familiarity with property assessment software, MS Office Suite, and Cass County geography
  • Skilled in blueprint interpretation, research, and mathematical calculations
  • Attentive to detail, sound judgment, and effective communication
  • Ability to build professional relationships with internal teams, public agencies, and the community
  • Proficiency in operating computers, tablets, and measuring tools
  • Capability to work in varied environments, including homes, construction sites, and offices, with exposure to weather and physical demands up to 25 lbs
