Animal Clinic Inc. is small animal practice that has over 57 years of combined experience. We serve Iowa City and the surrounding communities and pride ourselves on being thoughtful, high touch, educating, and family-oriented practitioners.

 

Aside from industry leading wellness care, we have experienced all types of conditions and treatments throughout our many years. Additional equipment/services we regularly utilize are full in-house laboratory, ultrasound, digital radiology, surgical laser, therapy laser, acupuncture, and more.

You’ll be joining a collaborative, down-to-earth team led by Drs. Grace Zhang (Managing DVM), Susan Oliver, and Jessica Fishbaugher, Stefanie Merrill with Dr. Bill Welter, the previous owner, continuing to practice part-time. Our doctors are supported by skilled licensed technicians, experienced assistants, and a knowledgeable administrative team.

Position Summary

Animal Clinic Inc. is seeking a full-time Veterinarian (DVM) to join our supportive and growing team. We’re looking for a compassionate, motivated doctor who enjoys collaboration, values strong client relationships, and practices high-quality, evidence-based medicine.

Whether you’re seeking a stable long-term home or a practice where you can continue to grow clinically, this role offers an excellent balance of autonomy, mentorship, and work-life balance.

Schedule

  • 4 Day schedule Monday–Friday (Day off TBD) : 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM 

  • Rotating Saturdays: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM

  • Active DVM license in good standing (or ability to obtain)

  • 2+ years of clinical experience preferred - Open to new grads for the right candidate

  • Strong medical and diagnostic skills; surgical experience a plus

  • Excellent communication skills with a passion for client education

Essential Responsibilities:

\n
  • Examine and treat companion animals to detect and determine the nature of disease or injuries.
  • Operate diagnostic equipment and collect diagnostic samples as well as interpret results.
  • Advise pet owners on preventative care and treatment options.
  • Perform surgery and prescribe medication as needed.
  • Provide counsel around pet end of life care.
  • Maintain patients’ medical records.
  • Ensures compliance with veterinary ethics and relevant statues, policies, and procedures.

Requirements/Qualifications:

\n
  • DVM/VMD degree from an accredited AVMA institution.
  • Appropriate state licensure.
  • Eligibility to obtain DEA/BNDD.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates professional and courteous presentation consistently with staff and clients.
  • Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; ability to lift patients or carry equipment over 25 pounds with assistance.
