Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Campus Ministry, this position manages a portfolio of Campus Ministry staff and creates and animates programming and pastoral care with a particular attention to Ignatian spirituality and the Jesuit tradition. Grounded in a commitment to LMU’s Catholic values as animated by the Society of Jesus, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange, and the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, this role oversees, develops, and assesses opportunities for prayer, worship, community-building, reflection, and service that are distinctive in their Ignatian charism and in collaboration with Campus Ministry’s current offerings and LMU Student Affairs. Position Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities: Responsible for the direct supervision of a portfolio of full time staff Campus Ministers. Will recruit, hire, develop, and coordinate staff and conduct staff trainings.  Assess staff and programs for growth and development and to assure that programs embody University principles and meet the spiritual needs of students. Support the Director in auditing and implementing anti-racist, spiritually expansive, trauma-sensitive, and socially conscious values within Campus Ministry: among staff, throughout programming, and in all strategic planning. Assist the Director with the assessment of programs and activities in view of immediate and long-term Campus Ministry needs, objectives, and goals. Serve on University committees as assigned including student award committees. Respond to assignments designated by the Director that require attention and implementation for the overall health and stewardship of Campus Ministry. Be available for regular meetings with the Director. Develop, manage, and assess programming that introduces students to and accompanies students in deepening their understanding of Ignatian spirituality. Offer a regular rhythm of Examen prayer gatherings for students. Pilot a “retreat in daily life” adaptation of the 19th Annotation for students. In collaboration with the Director of Campus Ministry, create and animate other programming and opportunities for students to engage with Ignatian spirituality. Accompany Campus Ministry programming such as DeColores, First Year Retreat, Search Retreat, Silent Retreat, Ignacio Companions, Montserrat Pilgrimage, Graduate Student Pilgrimage, CLC, and Interfaith Council. Serve on the Ignatian Heritage Month planning committee. Offer ideas, oversee programming, communicate with Campus Ministry regarding IHM initiatives. Maintain a portfolio of spiritual directees. Assess and audit offerings through surveys and feedback, evaluating learning outcomes and student feedback to ensure exceptional student experience. Creatively employ social media and technology to meet student needs and support administrative organization. Collaborate with university partners such as Student Affairs, Marketing & Communications, the Jesuit Community, Risk Management, etc. Accompany all students pastorally, bearing witness to the movements of God in their lives, listening, challenging, and fostering spiritual growth. Introduce students to the graces of the university charisms, including Ignatian spirituality. Serve as a faithful steward of institutional mission, modeling maturity, nurturing growth, and participating joyfully in the vast and varied elements of university life. Collaborate on Campus Ministry initiatives including, for example, Welcome Week, Family Weekend, Commencement, Wellness Wednesdays, University Liturgies, and interfaith initiatives. Demonstrate administrative agility (communication, organization, attentiveness to detail, fiscal management), understand of the distinct pastoral vectors of higher education, commit to professional development, remain abreast of the dynamic spiritual needs of college students, and embody a spirit of generative, innovative collegiality that elevates all of Campus Ministry. Requisite Qualifications: Jesuit priest or scholastic in good standing with the Society of Jesus. Typically a Master’s Degree in Theology, Master of Divinity, or equivalent experience. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading his/her knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to excel and keep abreast of regulation/policy changes. If ordained in their respective tradition, Campus Minister is expected to remain in good standing with their ecclesial body. Preferred 5 years of experience in a university setting ministering to college students. Demonstrated knowledge of Ignatian Spirituality, Jesuit higher education, and current approaches to young adult faith and leadership formation. Demonstrated knowledge of social justice, and commitment to remaining current and informed on broad social and spiritual causes that relate to University mission. Highly developed organizational and leadership skills. Exemplary communication skills -- both written and oral. Strong active listening and interpersonal skills. Proven experience in the development and evaluation of programs. Experience in the articulation and application of learning outcomes. Demonstrated computer competency and knowledgeable in technology, social media, and Microsoft Suite.
