Segue Inc. a non-profit outpatient mental health facility in Jackson is searching for a qualified Peer Support Specialist.
A qualified Peer Support Specialist for our organization is an individual who has been successful in the recovery process and helps others experiencing similar situations. Through shared understanding, respect, and mutual empowerment, Mental Health Peer Support Specialists help people become and stay engaged in the recovery process and reduce the likelihood of relapse. Through peer support services we can extend our reach of treatment beyond the clinical setting into the everyday environment of those seeking a successful, sustained recovery process.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Must possess a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and vehicle insurance
Must be a current or former recipient of mental health and/or substance abuse services, who has achieved a level of recovery allowing for productive work.
Ability to establish supportive and trusting relationships with other consumers.
Knowledge and skill to teach and engage in basic problem-solving strategies to support individual clients in self-directed recovery.
Knowledge of the signs and symptoms of mental illness (i.e., auditory and visual hallucinations, aggressive talk and behavior, thoughts of self-harm or harm towards others, isolation) and the ability to assist the consumer to address symptoms using strategies such as positive self-talk.
An Art background (potential to facilitate an Art group)
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Carries out job duties as a treatment team member and contributes to the team's ongoing assessment of clients' symptoms and response to treatment.
Provides peer support services to individuals or groups, per Medicaid standards.
Assists team members in understanding client perspectives.
Shares personal stories of recovery to consumers to motivate and offer hope.
Encourages clients to socialize in community and peer-run activities.
Facilitates recovery-focused groups.
Completes detailed consumer progress notes for face-to-face meetings and significant phone or other events by typing in the Electronic Medical Records system daily
Uses personal vehicle to visit consumers and transport as required.
Assist in finding resources for the consumer (i.e., Housing, food, clothing, etc.)
May be required to work additional hours or other duties as directed by Administration.
